Morning’s End Part II Speedrun Guide – Old School RuneScape
Morning’s End Part II is one of Old School RuneScape’s most intricate and puzzle-heavy quests. Between the maze-like Temple of Light, the mirror mechanics, and the lengthy Ironman-only Death Talisman grind, it’s a quest that rewards preparation and patience. Many players choose to stock up on extra supplies or buy OSRS gold beforehand to ensure they have all the potions, teleports, and gear they need for a smooth run. This instructional guide walks you through a streamlined speedrun method, covering the optimal inventory setup, efficient routing, and strategies to handle both the maze and Thorgal’s item hunt without losing momentum.
Required Items and Preparation
Before you begin, make sure you have:
· Chisel
· Rope
· 3 stamina potions
· 3 prayer potions (or one 4-dose + a prayer regen item)
· 5–6 pieces of food (preferably summer pies for agility boosts)
· 2 West Ardougne teleports
· Teleport crystal with three charges
· Death talisman (non-Ironmen can buy this from the Grand Exchange; Ironmen will earn it later)
· 5,000–10,000 coins
If your teleport crystal has fewer than three charges, convert it into a teleport seed by using up its charges, then re-enchant it with Eluned near Port Tyras. Bring coins to pay for the enchantment. Make sure to leave plenty of empty inventory space, as the maze section will require up to 20 open slots for mirrors and crystals.
Armor and Equipment
Equip the full mourner’s outfit to access key areas. Pair it with run energy and prayer-sustaining gear, such as the ring of endurance, explorer’s ring, or ancient mace for its prayer-restoring special attack. Set auto-retaliate off, and enable Protect from Melee as your quick prayer-this will be essential during the light maze, where you’ll face constant damage from aggressive shadows.
Starting the Quest
Once prepped, teleport to Lletya using your teleport crystal and speak to Arianwyn to start the quest.
Then, teleport to West Ardougne, head to the mourner headquarters, and talk to Essyllt.
From there, exit through the western door and head west until you see yellow dots (enemy markers) on your minimap—activate your quick prayers here, and keep them on as you approach the Temple of Light.
Navigating the Temple of Light Maze
This is the most complex part of the quest and can take up to 20 minutes even with RuneLite’s quest helper. The key mechanics revolve around rotating mirrors and redirecting light beams to unlock new areas.
· Use your chisel on the dark crystal to begin.
· Follow your quest helper markers closely.
· Use spacebar to rotate mirrors quickly while avoiding shadows.
· Keep stamina and prayer potions active as needed.
When you encounter the notorious agility obstacle, use a summer pie to gain a +5 agility boost before attempting it. Success is RNG-based, so if you fail, simply retry. Pause and resync if you’re following a video guide.
Once across, continue manipulating mirrors and collecting crystals. If your inventory fills up, drop food first, then any low-dose potions—you’ll need space for puzzle items more than healing at this stage.
The Death Talisman and Thorgal’s Challenge (Ironmen Only)
If you already have a Death Talisman, skip ahead.
If you’re an Ironman, this section is your grind.
Talk to Thorgal, who will give you a list of 50 random items to collect. This part dramatically extends the quest, often taking one to two hours. You can find a complete checklist on the OSRS Wiki, complete with clickable item sources—use this to efficiently gather everything before returning.
Once you’ve collected all 50 items, store them in your bank. Withdraw:
· Cyan crystal
· Newly made crystal
· New key
· 25 of Thorgal’s items
Return to the Temple of Light in full mourner gear. Deliver the first 25 items, then teleport out, restock, and repeat for the remaining 25. Once complete, Thorgal will reward you with the Death Talisman.
Finishing the Quest
With the Death Talisman in hand:
· Use it on the altar inside the temple.
· Use your newly made crystal on the altar afterward.
· Exit through the southern portal, then head east to rotate the mirror beam onto the light door.
· Climb the stairs, use your charged crystal on the dark crystal, and teleport out.
Finally, bank if needed, then teleport back to Lletya and speak to Arianwyn to complete the quest.
Final Notes
Morning’s End Part II is infamous for its light puzzles and precision-heavy navigation, but with RuneLite’s Quest Helper, proper preparation, and strategic item management, it’s a manageable challenge-even for Ironmen. Using stamina potions efficiently, manually clicking through tight corridors (instead of relying on the minimap), and keeping your inventory optimized will save valuable time. And while you can’t skip the maze itself, smart players often prepare by stocking up on supplies or investing in cheap OSRS gold beforehand to ensure they have everything needed for quick teleports, potions, and gear repairs. Finish strong, enjoy the rewards, and add another difficult but rewarding milestone to your Old School RuneScape journey.
